OK, so I decided I will start with song lyrics off of Some Fear None's debut album beginning with the lead-off track "Exit Wound"!
I feel it is very important for everyone to understand that when I approach a topic to write about I try to put myself in the position of all of the characters in the story, this does not at all mean that I have first hand experience with the subject content or that these feelings are mine. I am merely telling a story so please do the same when you are reading this and trying to understand the characters. Try to take yourself, your views, your dispositions, you closed mind and send it on a vacation as it will only get in the way!
EXIT WOUND
Verse 1:
Don't need a speech, don't need to run, don't need to reach I've got this gun
The plan I formed for me to rise past bloodshot vision in my eyes
The rest I'll leave it up to you, and trust you'll squeeze this trigger through
Don't let me down I'm on my way, I need to count on you today
Chorus:
Tomorrow you can go and steal away
My freedom bows to you today
Tomorrow you can find a better way
But as for me yah, I need you today
Verse 2:
Call it evil, to me it's good, beyond what you have understood
The sickness lives inside of me, but soon it takes us, you will see
So all I ask of you is to end a life and killing of a friend
This monster running through my veins can not defeat while you remain
Revised Chorus:
Tomorrow you can go and steal away
My freedom bows to you today
Tomorrow you can find a better way
But as for me, and I mean here and now
The truth be told, you end this all today
Bridge:
I've never called on you like this, so just this once won't you assist?
And break these chains, been binding me, just close my eyes and set me free
(Chorus)
Outro:
Rise and save me, save me, rise and...
Rise and save me, He will understand if you save me.
So what's it all about!? I would usually ask you that question but since the propose of this is to give you a peek inside my little head I'll share this, oh so delicate and sensitive meaning with you, as long as you promise to keep that open mind we talked about earlier!
*This song is about choosing to die under your own terms and that perhaps by being able to make a choice to have a friend assist you in your escape from a fatal disease that is eating you whole, you will have beaten it, or at least not have allowed it to be the victor over what remains, your choice! This is a rather controversial topic and I am not intending to make an argument for or against the position of right or wrong. I'm just telling a story of a person dying of a wretched disease, a disease that has taken virtually everything away from them and as they lay motionless, unable to communicate with nothing but their pleading eyes, eyes that tell this entire story. We are left with a sense of shock and reverence at this request having never been in this persons position, that of facing death within hours. The friend recognizes the plea and struggles with every thought, every emotion imaginable as they contemplate every angle, simply wanting to do the "right" thing! Sensing this, the dying urges that the fiend can work out all those details tomorrow, but today, they must decide to act in favor of the dying and allow them their choice, that one final statement against the disease, one that says, "You , my enemy, will not close my eyes. You will not end this! One whom I love and who loves me will be my salvation from your parasitic existence that feeds upon my flesh! This is all you can have, but my spirit will be set free and over this, you have no power!"
That may be plenty for you to take in for our first session here. Please feel free to ask any questions or share and thoughts or comments. I will break down the lyrics even further in my next blog but that just took a lot out of me! Some ask me how I sing with such passion and intensity at every show. My answer: Every time I sing this song, I am dying of a fatal disease! Every time I sing this song, I have been asked to end a friends life who is dying of a fatal disease, and I just want to do the "right" thing!
