SE HAN IDO

The 3rd track on the new album is "Se Han Ido", which translated into English from Spanish means, "They Have Gone", making reference to those whom we have loved but who have passed on. The song is really about coping with the memory and loss of our loved ones.

SE HAN IDO

Verse 1:
This rite of passage, sense of an ending
Is just a touch beyond my reach
I know you've changed and it's changed me
Moving forward I'll take less of that, please

Through generations dims the hour
Of calling back those memories
Se han ido, se han ido, se han ido

Chorus:
I have never been promised tomorrow
So today is where I'll stay, refuse to end this day
But if you tell me that I must close my eyes again
I promise tomorrow, for you my friend
But I can't do this today, 'cause I am so afraid
Afraid for tomorrow

Verse 2:
The separation now in place
Demanding I should stay awake
You've got to let me work this out
For you, for me, for heaven's sake

Your whisperings, your sonic pulsing
Luring me into a dream
Me has ido, me has ido, me has ido

(Chorus).

PAINSTAKING - BROKEN DOWN

Well..... I fell off the wagon for about a month due to a high volume of shows, which I'm grateful for but here I am again to keep the song lyrics and meanings flowing your way!

Painstaking was my last blog and at this point I'd like to dig into it just a little bit!

PAINSTAKING
Verse 1:
The last that I'm remembering was laying in this place
To find myself in daylight with morning at my face
You must have walked away and I'm a loss for losing

The main character wakes up on an unknown street corner with no recollection of how he arrived there. The only thing he remembers is being out with his close friends the night before for a little fun; one of these friends had agreed to be the sober one for the night!
Chorus:
Painstaking, ending, thinking but nothing
Conquering, closing in, distancing from knowing

His mind is unable to piece together the previous nights events which could have resulted in him being abandoned and left to the elements of nature and man. All he knows is that his "friends" had to have just walked away!
Verse 2:
Sat up without memory and passers by they gave
To settle in and make this home, but all I want is to live
And you must have walked away, I'm a loss still losing

As he examines himself he realizes that loose change had been laid on him while he was laying down making his feelings of self worth greatly diminish which increases his level of aggravation and frustration!
(Chorus)
Bridge:
I recognize my part in this, I may have fought you with my fists
Regardless what the answer is, how could you, how could you?

He is willing to accept that he carries some responsibility for being in this situation and that he acknowledges that his drinking may have even led him to aggression against those that he was with the night before. However; even with all of these facts or possible scenarios, he can find no excuse for leaving him alone, none!
(Chorus).

PAINSTAKING

The 2nd track off the new album, "Break Hold & Elevate" is "Painstaking" and this was also the 1st single released from that album. The definition of 'Painstaking' is: showing or done with great care and effort. The song is about abandonment but we'll tie all that together soon enough, let's get to the lyrics shall we!?

Feelings of abandonment occur in the heart and mind of everyone in varying degrees regardless of social or economic status, gender, religion or race. It is inescapable. We have all felt alone, forgotten, discarded in some way or another and this song touches on one's experience of being left behind by those who were most dear. The kicker is that the main character has no recollection of the previous nights events, only that he was with his best friends for night out, had a bit too much to drink and wakes up the next morning on a foreign street corner, alone! He is left to sit there and 'painstakingly' attempt to put the events together that would have left him in this situation!

Please use the link above to listen to the song with headphones and few times while you read through the lyrics using the brief description of the songs meaning and soak in it. My next blog will break these lyrics down line by line to dig into the meat of it all!

EXIT WOUND - BROKEN DOWN

If you are reading my blog for the first time please go back and read "EXIT WOUND" as this is a closer look into the meaning of the story, and lyrics that tell that story.

'Exit Wound' as a title is a play on words. If you switch the words around they would fall into this sentence: 'The WOUND you will give me will allow me my EXIT'. So in other words it is an exit wound or wound allowing an exit, not an exit wound or the exit of an object creating or causing a wound (deep and confusing?). Let that soak in while you read this next part.

I'm now going to break down the lyrics line by line to give you the full story around what the single line lyrics narrowly portray, strap in!

EXIT WOUND
Verse 1:
Don't need a speech, don't need to run, don't need to reach I've got this gun
The plan I formed for me to rise past bloodshot vision in my eyes
The rest I'll leave it up to you, and trust you'll squeeze this trigger through
Don't let me down I'm on my way, I need to count on you today

The main character, who we will refer to as "the dying" is telling the other character, who we will call "the friend", that the dying does not want to hear a speech on morality or why it is wrong to put someone out of their misery by assisting them to die. The dying is also eluding to the fact that he is unable to move or is incapacitated, "don't need to run" or in other words "I do not require the need to move or go anywhere because I have you, "this gun". The 'gun' reference itself is a metaphor for a tool to make his escape. He has hatched this plan to accomplish his design and the friend is the entire plan. The dying is placing all responsibility on the friend in order for the dying to beat the disease and that is on it's final day of destruction. Today they must make their move in order for the dying to be able to end this destruction and win the battle.

Chorus:
Tomorrow you can go and steal away
My freedom bows to you today
Tomorrow you can find a better way
But as for me yah, I need you today

As the friend is faced with this great decision at the silent insistence of the dying, the dying can see that the friend would rather put this off another day and think about it more. The dying knows that tomorrow will be too late. His freedom is in the hands and at the mercy of the friend.

Verse 2:
Call it evil, to me it's good, beyond what you have understood
The sickness lives inside of me, but soon it takes us, you will see
So all I ask of you is to end a life and killing of a friend
This monster running through my veins can not defeat while you remain

Sensing some serious internal struggle on the part of the friend, and attempting to aid him in his moral dilemma, the dying explains that this is not a choice that requires the usual good/bad evaluation, rather it is beyond the understanding of the friend and that only the dying is making a decision here. The friend is simply acting as the hands of the dying, not as the friend himself. The dying knows and sees his fate although the friend can only see that in this moment the dying is still alive. In a twist of perspective the dying in essence is asking for the friend to end the killing that is happening right before his very eyes; the killing of a friend by ending what fragments of life are left while there is still a chance to do so. The illness runs through the veins of the dying but the dying knows that he can not be defeated as long as the friend, in his health, is willing!

Bridge:
I've never called on you like this, so just this once won't you assist?
And break these chains, been binding me, just close my eyes and set me free

The dying looks into the eyes of the friend with desperation and an final plea that this request, although significant and final in nature, is not one that the dying would ask under any other circumstances and that their history and past should support this claim. The dying is bound without the ability to free himself, but the friend holds the keys in his trusting hands.

Outro:
Rise and save me, save me, rise and...
Rise and save me, He will understand if you save me.

The dying feels the end approaching and becomes more urgent with his attempts to make his argument to the friend. As the final pinnacle to his declaration, the dying states that God himself will understand, if the friend would but perform this final act; an act of salvation.

Again, I appreciate your open mind and appreciation for the complexities and complications of life, and death. This is a very somber and sacred topic, one that I hope you feel I have not taken lightly. I have deliberately left the ending unrealized and open. My intension for doing such a thing is that I believe we must each make our own decisions on how we would preform while in the shoes of either of these two characters and you do not need my finished ending to slant or persuade you otherwise.

EXIT WOUND

OK, so I decided I will start with song lyrics off of Some Fear None's debut album beginning with the lead-off track "Exit Wound"!

I feel it is very important for everyone to understand that when I approach a topic to write about I try to put myself in the position of all of the characters in the story, this does not at all mean that I have first hand experience with the subject content or that these feelings are mine. I am merely telling a story so please do the same when you are reading this and trying to understand the characters. Try to take yourself, your views, your dispositions, you closed mind and send it on a vacation as it will only get in the way!

EXIT WOUND

Chorus:
Tomorrow you can go and steal away
My freedom bows to you today
Tomorrow you can find a better way
But as for me yah, I need you today

Verse 2:
Call it evil, to me it's good, beyond what you have understood
The sickness lives inside of me, but soon it takes us, you will see

So all I ask of you is to end a life and killing of a friend
This monster running through my veins can not defeat while you remain

Revised Chorus:
Tomorrow you can go and steal away
My freedom bows to you today
Tomorrow you can find a better way
But as for me, and I mean here and now
The truth be told, you end this all today

Bridge:
I've never called on you like this, so just this once won't you assist?
And break these chains, been binding me, just close my eyes and set me free

(Chorus)

Outro:
Rise and save me, save me, rise and...
Rise and save me, He will understand if you save me.

So what's it all about!? I would usually ask you that question but since the propose of this is to give you a peek inside my little head I'll share this, oh so delicate and sensitive meaning with you, as long as you promise to keep that open mind we talked about earlier!

*This song is about choosing to die under your own terms and that perhaps by being able to make a choice to have a friend assist you in your escape from a fatal disease that is eating you whole, you will have beaten it, or at least not have allowed it to be the victor over what remains, your choice! This is a rather controversial topic and I am not intending to make an argument for or against the position of right or wrong. I'm just telling a story of a person dying of a wretched disease, a disease that has taken virtually everything away from them and as they lay motionless, unable to communicate with nothing but their pleading eyes, eyes that tell this entire story. We are left with a sense of shock and reverence at this request having never been in this persons position, that of facing death within hours. The friend recognizes the plea and struggles with every thought, every emotion imaginable as they contemplate every angle, simply wanting to do the "right" thing! Sensing this, the dying urges that the fiend can work out all those details tomorrow, but today, they must decide to act in favor of the dying and allow them their choice, that one final statement against the disease, one that says, "You , my enemy, will not close my eyes. You will not end this! One whom I love and who loves me will be my salvation from your parasitic existence that feeds upon my flesh! This is all you can have, but my spirit will be set free and over this, you have no power!"

That may be plenty for you to take in for our first session here. Please feel free to ask any questions or share and thoughts or comments. I will break down the lyrics even further in my next blog but that just took a lot out of me! Some ask me how I sing with such passion and intensity at every show. My answer: Every time I sing this song, I am dying of a fatal disease! Every time I sing this song, I have been asked to end a friends life who is dying of a fatal disease, and I just want to do the "right" thing!

Intro:

Hello...... I'm Nate, the lead singer of the Sacramento, CA hard rock band, Some Fear None (SFN). Welcome to my blog! As a band, we have begun to see a little success with respect to reaching people with our music and it has made me very happy! Since our debut album came out, "Break Hold & Elevate" ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/break-hold-elevate/id646156308 ) earlier this year, many have asked for a copy of the lyrics so they can better understand what I am saying/singing. I have decided to create this blog in order to do just that, share the lyrics of the songs, but I wanted to take it a step further and explain a little bit more about the meaning behind each song. My hope is that those who call themselves fans of SFN can not only know the lyrics but understand a little bit about the mind of their creator! Please take this ride with me and I hope that you will be entertained with the written word behind the music!
